I've had a quite a few requests for the smallbiz01 template to support three columns instead of the existing layout of navlist-content-sidebar. I'm happy to provide this, but there is a proviso, this is a quick fix and both sidebars are always present at this time, so if you wanted to use only one sidebar I'm afraid the template won't yet support this. I plan a further update with more options.

The license for this template and the 3 col update is GPL - please respect my work and leave my link in place, its the only recognition I get since I everything I do is freely available.

Robert Lender has published a short tutorial on adding an extra navbar link in the smallbiz01 template for users of Serendipity 1.1

For my English visitors, the gist of the tutorial is fairly simple to follow and involves editing the config.inc.php and index.tpl files from the template folder.

In config.inc.php add the following code, making sure to start adding additional links from number 6 since 5 is already used for one of the footer links.

Then, open index.tpl and add the following line after the existing list items within the second part of the navbar (these are the bits that have the smarty code which includes a reference to the $template_option's

Robert's tutorial mentions that adding as many extra links as you need is possible by simply repeating the process described above, and incrementing the numbers in the variables navlink6text and navlink6url. Easily done and this will extend your template navbar to include as many links as you require.

Every few days I go through my site logs to see where my visitors are coming from. Its a big task, since this site is now getting over anywhere from 100 to 200 new visitors per day, in addition to all the regular visitors. When I go through my logs I often come across other blog sites where one of my Serendipity templates has been tweaked or customised.

Take a look at Diana's blog Pocahontasia [Sadly Diana's site is no longer operational] to see an example of some excellent work modifying the andreas08 template for her needs. The colors have been changed from the original blue to red, and the header has been significantly expanded to make room for a rotating image. Also, a new background image has been added to the main content so that a red gradient sits behind the sidebar. I love this design and obviously a lot of thought has gone into making this design work for Diana.

The next site, Brannekes Online, uses the artisitic template and whilst most of the original work has been left alone, the simple act of changing the header graphic seems to make the design look totally different. Also this is a multi-author site which you don't see very often.

I've recently had a legal dispute with another blogger who infringed my copyright and placed almost all of my articles on his own blog without crediting any of my work. He's been dealt with by my legal team, and it now looks like I've been far too generous with my intellectual property. So, here are a couple quick explanations for anyone viewing my content or downloading templates from this site.

1. All content is copyright Carl Galloway. Translated works are copyright as well. Under international copyright law, they are jointly owned by myself and the author of the translation. Please, if you would like to republish any articles, email me. I'm not unreasonable, and I doubt the authors of any translations would be either.

2. Templates available to download are either licensed under GPL, or a creative commons share-alike license. Over the next few weeks I'll be adding license info to all templates. Any template which does not contain license info was generally released under GPL, and it would be great if you could leave my link and/or the original designers links in place. Designers who use my templates for commercial gain and who remove my links are forcing me to change my licensing, and future templates will NOT be issued under GPL.

3. The Serendipity default template (including versions available from this site) are licensed under a BSD style license. Copyright to the version that ships with Serendipity is owned by the Serendipity project.
