One of the great advantages of living in Ronda rather than in the campo of one of the pueblos blancos is that I get to go for a walk around the city every day finding new places to take photos from.

The other day I was walking around some of the streets above the Padre Jesús district which overlooks La Ciudad, Ronda's old town, and the sun seemed to be ion the perfect place to snap this photo.

What you see in the picture is the Church of the Holy Spirit over at the far left, and to the top right the church of Santa Maria la Mayor, but in the middle below the old city you see the walls of the medieval city and the Exijara gate which used to lead into the city from the old artisans quarter.

Last week in Ronda we celebrated Semana Santa, translated to English Holy Week, and for an entire week we get to see a series of processions thru the city, sometimes as many as three or four per day.

The photo you see below is just one of the imagenes, this one is of course Christ on his donkey and the photo was taken on Palm Sunday. Each of the imagenes is carried by members of the church brotherhood or sisterhood, this one pictured is a medium sized one for Ronda, only needing about 60 people to carry it.

Some of the other processions had as many as 120 strong men under the Christo carrying him around town, yes, these processions wander thru town so that everyone can appreciate their beauty.

The night time processions can be particularly impressive with candles burning on the imagenes and people wearing the hooded outfits so all you can see are their eyes also carrying long candles, some as long as a meter and a half.
