Today I decided to check out all the feeds I subscribe to, isn't it funny how these things just slip by when other more important things need to be dealt with, anyway I came across a blog post on Novamente website about AI Parrots that they're developing.
For those of you who haven't heard, Novamente raised a bit of interest last week on the major newswires when their CEO Ben Goertzel talked up AI incubation in the metasphere, for example in Second Life or World of Warcraft.
This particular post is about creating parrots with linguistic skills that would learn from their interactions with real world members of the various virtual worlds, and then once they've learned enough English to be useful, well they could do almost anything, but realistically they would serve as the proof of concept needed to start developing AI babies that could be grown until they reach adulthood, assuming sufficient advances in technology and taking into account safety concerns.
