An ecommerce store for the home entrepreneur

In previous entries I've talked about home entrepreneurs needing to get a domain name and some hosting for their website. Today I'm going to talk about ecommerce software, in particular ashop commerce. I've used this software when I was selling scrapbooking supplies a few years ago, and a friend used it for selling health supplements.

Basically if you're a home entrepreneur, and you have a relationship with a company to resell their products, you don't want to be going from door to door looking for business. Chances are your product is good enough to sell itself, so let it, instead put more of your energies into promoting your online store.
If you haven't tried an ecommerce site before, go and sign up for the free 10 day trial at ashop. The process is really simple, a few details and then you're given access to their administration area showing you how easy it is enter products, which can easily be categorized just like a real store.

Here are a couple of features of the ashop software that I really like, and which in my opinion the home entrepreneur could not do without. Complete inventory control in real time, integration with MYOB or Quicken, uses Google's checkout payment processor eliminating the need for a merchant account with your bank, and it also feeds your products to specialized product search engines such as froogle, BizRate or Yahoo! shopping network.

Of course there are more features, probably enough to right a book about, but these especially take the drudgery out of running an ecommerce site. You could also download one of the many free shopping carts available, but honestly, if you're running a business you need technical support if something goes wrong, and you need a system with everything built-in. As all the guru's say, pay someone else to do the hard work, I want sit on the beach.
