Yup, you read that correctly. Every other post I've written has mentioned how dry and warm it is in Spain, but not the last week. It's been raining; and it hasn't been fun.
Over the last four days we've had as much rain as parts of Australia might get in five years. All up I think we're had over 400mm in four days. Suffice to say Malaga province suffered some flooding, which isn't much fun. We were actually the lucky ones, our neighbors were all flooded, I only had to clean up a bit of flooding in our bathroom, but a couple days ago we spent several hours next door sweeping a constant stream of muddy water that was coming through the floors out onto the patio.
The storm water drains in Spain aren't designed for sudden increases in rain like this and on top of that there is a bunch of construction going on everywhere so the storm water system gets clogged up with cement powder that just gets washed off the pavements with water, and of course it settles in the drains, its kinda like a heart attack on the city, the arteries get blocked leading to flooding. Except the water is really dirty, there is a lot of clay beneath the houses and streets so when it floods that stuff gets picked up and dragged into your home.
Needless to say this prevented us getting out and seeing more of the sights, so I bashed around the web dropping Entrecards everywhere, and then settled back to watch TV in the evenings. Entrecard has been fascinating, a lot of bloggers have been complaining bitterly about the recent changes over advertsing rates over at Entrecard, but being new I don't see it as a problem, if anything I see it as creating a valuable market for Entrecard credits which could now become valuable on the buy and sell market.
So my evil plan for world domination requires that I immediately start hoarding Entrecard credits, and maybe even buying some, but only at the current rate, but most of all what I want is other blogs, if you know anyone who has a blog thats maybe 6 months old and they don't want it anymore and they wanna sell it; its better than just letting it die and disappear. I'm particularly interested in celebrity blogs or review blogs, but almost anything could be worth looking at.
Now in a previous post I said I'd mention a few of the other Entrecarders who made comment, so I'd like to thank
danandmarsh,
mamaflo,
Kent,
Gordon and
Margaret. A big thanks to Margaret for her welcome on the Entrecard forums as well.
Apart from Entrecard, we've been catching up on some Spanish TV, we try not to watch the gameshows too much, instead we've become addicted to Smallville, Spanish Idol, and a local comedy show. Of course nothing is in English, everything is dubbed, in fact its really funny, they even put Spanish subtitles on the screen when an English language song is being played in the background. I guess they aren't going to produce a new soundtrack for a show like Smallville but it seems kinda pointless putting subtitles on screen, I doubt it helps anyone learn English.
Spanish Idol is great, same format as American, British, German, Australian, you get the picture; at the moment the series is just starting so we're still at the audition stage and I gotta tell ya there is some serious talent here. Looking forward to seeing the actual competition, could be interesting.
But the best way of learning Spanish is through humor. Spanish people are naturally funny people anyway, they like to have fun, when they're not getting all serious about politics or sport, so comedy on TV is a good way to get into Spanish humor. Sadly there aren't that many comedy shows on TV but there is one we like watching called '
Escenas de Matrimonio', featuring 4 or 5 couples and the things couples do. And also featuring Miren Ibarguren who it must be said is mucho calor.
If you want to see some of the scenes from the show, some enterprising person has put them up on YouTube, but I couldn't possibly give you the link because that might be copyright infringement lol.
