While dropping in on a few bloggers this morning I came across a new social community that looks interesting, but probably not for the reasons you might imagine. Go
join 3gb community www.3gb.biz is the website, to see why.
Social communities are the great rage at the moment, and I think over the next few years they'll completely take over from blogs, especially if the members have the ability to share their own thoughts in the same way as a blog with all the bells and whistles that come from being part of a community.
But the 3gb community is really interesting for two reasons, the first, and most important I think, is the radio station it has built in which allows members to listen to complete albums of their favorite stars. I'm not sure if members can upload their own albums or if 3gb have some kind of license to broadcast the music but its a really nifty idea, way better than other communities such as MySpace or Ning.
The second interesting part of this community is that it is aimed at the Arabic community around the world although the primary language is English making it a great community for people from Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan and other places where English is the dominant second language.
3gb offers all the usual social community features such as profile pages for members, making friends, joining or creating groups, blog posting, and uploading photos which can be sorted into albums, but perhaps the most impressive feature is the live chat facility where members can chat privately amongst their friends from inside the 3gb community.
New social communities need to do more than MySpace, Facebook, or Ning these days to get a loyal following and I think the live chat feature of 3gb might just be its killer application.
Apart from the chat feature, I love the way 3gb lets to categorise friends into family, co-worker etc, but most interestingly, members are able to create their own friend categories, something that MySpace and Ning could really learn from. Go check it out, my username is carl if you want to hang out and chat.

No question that social communities are all the rage. Sad thing is how many marketers misunderstand and misuse them.
Your comment about social communities taking over from blogs is debatable but ya never know in the world wide web eh?
This new one is interesting with the music feature, and it will definitely appeal to many audiophiles.
Thanks for the interesting tip.
