OK, I joined up with Kiva so that I can be part of the movement giving micro loans to disadvantaged entrepreneurs in the developing world.
We, or rather the the other half, has been a Kiva supporter for about a year but today is the first time I've joined up myself, and I must say I feel pretty good about doing so.
Except for one small problem; Kiva is becoming so popular that there aren't actually any loans at the moment. Yup, you guessed, there are too many donors wanting to give funds and not enough entrepreneurs waiting for loans.
So all I've been able to do is make a small donation toward Kiva's operating costs. I'm not overly happy about this, it means I put $50 into my Kiva account, gave away $5 to Kiva, and the remaining $45 is just sitting there doing nothing.
I know I get a lot of readers from developing countries, at least my stats show this to be the case, so what I need is for all of you to find a local entrepreneur who could really use a micro loan and then get them to contact their local Kiva micro loan field team.
That last approach might not work but I hope Kiva get back on track soon, I kinda like the idea of helping entrepreneurs in developing countries.
Update: After several hours of refreshing the lend screen I finally got the chance to make a loan of $25 to a young man in Togo who needs $1200 to develop his little grocery store into a wholesaler for other stores in his area.
