Donkeys are a traditional pack animal in Spain, and until only a few years ago they were still a common site at the watering trough at the Almocobar Gate or the Ocho Caños (Eight Spout Fountain) in Barrio Padre Jesús.
In fact these two donkeys are in a field directly below the church of Espiritu Santo which is next to the Almocobar Gate. This time of year in Ronda is wonderful because the grasses on the hills surrounding Ronda are a lovely deep green colour.
The landscape in southern Spain is beautiful, but even more so after a wet winter, which has done wonders for the local flora. The rose bushes around Ronda are all coming into bloom, Alameda park looks stunning with bright green leaves, and of course the small farms around Ronda all have young donkeys, horses, sheep, and goats to look at.
