Last week I went for an accidental long walk, 30km long, all because I was trying to find a shortcut from one side of a valley to the other. Afterwards it occurred to me my walk pretty much sums up my life at the moment. I try to take a lot of shortcuts, but end up covering even more mileage than just doing this properly.
Without boring you to tears about my private life, let's just say I'm in a hurry to start my travels again, the really really long walk from Ronda to Roma (Rome, Italy), but I have to wrap up a few things here first before I can.
And I need to convert my websites to fully passive income before I go. At the moment several of my sites still need a lot of maintenance and regular articles to keep them going.
All of this is irrelevant to the walk last week, I was walking the ridge line around a valley, and assumed I could just walk all around, but fences and other obstructions prevented me doing so. The first mistake I made was to try to walk around the fenced property, it went for about 3km, taking me a long way from the ridge and the valley.
So I tried following another route back to the valley but that also lead me astray, at the end of the road was a dead end with security fences that would have seen me arrested if I'd tried crossing them.
Eventually I ended up back at home but not before getting lost and then following a sign I thought seemed like a logical direction to et around a railway line and highway.
In life I do much the same thing, constantly starting on one path until I discover it goes nowhere, then forcing myself to change direction and finding another poor path.
Making money online is exactly the same, if you start in one direction, you'll often find it becomes a dead end and you're forced to start again.
The funny thing is that friends of mine don't have these problems, they just keep doing stuff that doesn't make sense to me, and they make money, and when I try to copy them I get detoured.
I'm probably not alone, I think everyone whose goal is to make money online has these detours, the trick is to recognize the detours for what they are. They are not detours set to help you, instead they are detours put their by your own mind to trap you.
You're probably wondering why someone who professes to
make money online would confess to following detours created by my mind, and it's because in life and business we need discipline. Without discipline there can be no real success.
Stay focused on your goal, and if you find yourself following a wrong path take a moment to pause and see where it's taking you before committing to the path. Most of all, remember to keep building your websites and getting backlinks - don't be distracted by other activities, just do what you're supposed to do.
