Boungiorno, my partner and I have decided to start seriously learning Italian, and after months of watching any Italian tv programs we could find, we now feel ready to embrace language study.
We bought a language pack, the Hugo Italian in 3 months course, a couple of dictionaries and a software program for Windows that teaches Italian using short sound bytes.
So now that we've started, we plan to spend about half an hour a day going through new exercises, and as often as possible we're going to speak Italian to each other.
The plan is to visit Italy for a few months, perhaps even rent a small apartment somewhere. I've been before, so I'm looking forward to showing her around, especially around Florence which I remember being my favourite city.
We're not sure where we'll stay, my partner's great-grandfather was Sicilian and we like what we've seen of Sicily from watching
'Inspector Montalbano' so this looks appealing. The rugged landscape really attracts us but probably not for a long term stay.
If we decided to settle in Italy we would probably buy a small farm on the mainland and plant out an orchard.
I plan to post regular entries about our experiences, and would love to hear from anyone who shares our passion.
For my German site visitors, please don't despair, I've also started reading my German books again, and would love to visit Germany, maybe even take a boat trip along the Rhine.
Arrivederce, auf wiedersehen, see ya

I have tried to learn Italian on and off for years, without success or really sticking at it. This time seems to be different and I am finally getting somewhere using Michel Thomas' CDs. Anyway, we have recently started a new Italian Forum. There is a language section, and a couple of Italian members who will answer language queries and give help etc. Take a look if you have time! http://italianfever.com/forums
